Jean McMurry

Alda “Jean” Fortenbury McMurry, 90, passed peacefully into the hands of her Lord and Savior on March 15, 2024. She was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina to the late John Lee and Ruby Wright Fortenbury. She shared 50 precious years of marriage with her husband, Sam who preceded her in death in 2003. Jean is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Wells of Oak Island, North Carolina and Robin Robertson of New Port Richey, Florida. She was “Mamaw” to 4 grandchildren who loved her dearly: Rob Wells of Oak Island NC, Courtney Wright and husband Ian of Denver CO, Micah Robertson and wife Jeri of Tampa FL and Christopher Robertson of Raleigh NC and 1 great-grandchild, Oliver Robertson of Tampa FL. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Fortenbury Smith and several beloved nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Bob and Carol Fortenbury preceded her in death.

Jean was a devout Christian lady that shared God’s love every day of her life. She faithfully cared for her family and enjoyed bringing relatives together to enjoy her wonderful, southern cooking on special occasions. She retired from Belmont Heritage, Human Resources, after many years. Jean was a member of First Methodist Church of Mt. Holly where she was very active in the Pioneer Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She held her church family close to her heart and built many loving relationships there that meant the world to her.

A service to celebrate Mrs. McMurry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at First  Methodist Church of Mt. Holly. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First  Methodist Church of Mount Holly, NC.
